No-nonsense, built to last, this is our most versatile rocket stove, powered by wood or charcoal. This is one of the ‘old school’ rocket stoves, which launched Wild Stoves back in 2010. Many of those sold back then are still in use today. Tried and tested over many years across Africa and beyond, equipped with tough cast-iron top and thick insulation.
The Wild Wood & Charcoal Stove can burn wood, charcoal, or dried biomass. It’s the perfect option for those wanting to be able to use wood gathered from woodland floors, or charcoal for a smoke-free burn. Note, this stove is not suitable for wood pellets.
A fully insulated enclosed combustion chamber enables flames to mix with hot air to burn the smoke, and increase efficiency. The combustion chamber and top door insulation is lined with a refractory metal to provide ultimate durability. Everything is reinforced for durability & performance: this is a design that has been honed by real world use over more than a decade.
The stove includes a cast-iron top for supporting the pot. Strong enough to easily support an adult’s weight, there’s no real limit to the size of pot this can accommodate. Wide stainless steel handles enable the stove to be movable even when lit.
Adding adjustable doors has two benefits: firstly it enables even more control over heat output, so you can simmer or blast your pot when cooking. This model also enables the stove to be reconfigured to burn wood or charcoal. Wood requires air from above and below; charcoal burns best and most cleanly when air is delivered only from below. So for charcoal mode, the top door is completely closed.
How to light your rocket stove
Light a small fire inside the combustion chamber using waxed lighting paper or similar, then insert dry sticks horizontally into the stove. Within a minute or two the stove is ready for cooking. As the fuel burns, you nudge the sticks in, according to the intensity of heat required.
The shell is made from tough steel with a cast-iron pot support and heat-resistant plastic handles. The bottom of the combustion chamber is made from heat-resistant stone. The support that comes with the stove is used to support your wood while it is burning. It nests neatly on top of the hob for stowage between usage (where you can also use it to support a coffee percolator!)
The stove kicks out 3Kw of heat and is 3 times more efficient than an open fire, producing a fraction of the smoky emissions and able to cook a large meal with a handful of twigs.

The rocket stove family
This stove burns wood and charcoal. If you’re looking for something that just burns wood – and a little smaller, check out its little sister the Wild Rocket Stove.
Rocket Stove Safety
Used sensibly this stove will give many years of safe and fun use. However, all combustion produces carbon monoxide and other harmful emissions – in your car engine, your gas central heating boiler, even your efficient woodgas stove. This stove is designed for use outdoors. Use only outside or under well ventilated shelters. DO NOT USE IN TENTS or other enclosed spaces. Charcoal left at the end of a burn also produces carbon monoxide.
