Wild Stoves Grab Bag: Woodgas Stove & Fire Kit
If you’ve ever been heading out for a walk and wondered where all your cooking gear is, the Wild Stoves Grab bag is for you. It contains the basics of what you need to make tea and a hot meal out in the wilds. No more forgetting your pot, stove or matches!
We’ve been working on this for some months in response to lots of demand from customers wanting that one-bag solution to outdoor cooking. We’ve honed the selection of gear and we’re proud and excited to be offering these.
Wild Woodgas Stove Kit
The basic kit features the following:
- BLACK Canvas rucksack
- Wild Woodgas Stove MKIIt, including a drawstring bag
- Stainless steel cooking pot with lid and handle
- Red cotton drawstring bag for stowing your cooking pot.
- Windshield for cooking in all conditions.
- 2 x
reusable bamboo sporks. conventional plastic sporks.
The Genuine Wild Woodgas Stove MKIIt is our most long-lived and popular product. Much imitated, this is the original & genuine stove. Beautifully finished and embossed with our logo and a unique serial number, guaranteed high quality and lightweight. It’s the lightest Wild Woodgas Stove on the market, and boasts the improved wire top which enables you to heat any size pot or coffee maker no matter how small – even a can of soup is stable.
The stainless steel MSR pot is the perfect companion. With a fold-out handle, this 775 ml pot can boil up to 3 mugs of water. Best of all, when not in use you can stow the Woodgas Stove inside the MSR pot to save space. Keep the pot in the red drawstring bag to keep any soot off the rest of the gear in your backpack.
The windshield is an essential piece of kit for any windy and exposed areas. This slots down into the back pocket of the rucksack for safe-keeping.
Optional Fire Kit
Do you need help getting your fires going or an emergency backup? We have you covered with the optional Fire Kit that boasts:
- Pack of waxy Lighting Paper. 5 sheets; enough for lighting dozens of fires.
- Swedish flint & steel.
- Tobacco tin for stowing the Swedish flint & steel, matches (not included) & tinder etc.
- Fuel dish for converting your stove into an alcohol gel-burner.
- 200ml natural Firedragon gel fuel for up to 2 hours cooking. This can also be used as a firestarter, particularly when top-lighting wood pellets as a fuel.
The Flint & Steel is fun and effective. Good for 3000 strikes, you can produce a shower of hot sparks in any weather to catch our lighting paper, the Firedragon Fuel, or any other tinder.
Did you know the Wild Woodgas Stove also makes an excellent alcohol burner? Simply invert the grate component inside the stove, sit the fuel dish on it and its placed at the perfect height to burn gel. This is a useful option in emergency situations or when you wake up in a tent on one of those wet morning and need to make a brew in your (well-ventilated) tent awning.
The core of the kit: Canvas rucksack
This is a ‘daypack’ sized bag, with enough spare room around the kit to add your own knife, water bottle, cup, a little food, some fuel, perhaps a light waterproof jacket. It also includes lots of smaller pockets – including some inside the bag – to add your own firelighting gear, cutlery, camera and snacks.
We have tested this bag extensively in the hills of Dorset and mountains of the Lake District through winter and summer. It is not a ‘hand-stitched masterpiece’, but is capable and comfortable and has stood up well to some heavy use and weather. It’s made of canvas, metal and leather, so contains almost no plastic and is easy to fix if necessary.
Note: the main top opening is drawn closed with a drawstring. The top flap buckles are adjustable in length but feature MAGNETIC catches. This is quite convenient, and again these are strong enough magnets for moderate pack weights.
Rucksack measurements: H 37cm W 32 D 22 cm. Weight approx 950g.
