Twinwall flue – insulated
Twinwall flue is an insulated flue pipe which gives protection and peace of mind when taking the flue through any flammable material, like an old caravan roof or wooden shed.
This flue is larger in diameter than single wall, made of stainless steel that comes in sections 0.5m or 1m long. An adapter is needed to connect stoves and single-wall flues to Twin wall: see the option ‘Single-wall to twin-wall adaptor’. Also be sure to select the range of flashing kit and hats for twin wall which are slightly larger.
Diameters. Wendy: 150mm. Louis: 200mm
Finish: polished stainless steel.
Twinwall flashing options
Because twin wall flue gets less hot than single wall, these use black ‘EDPM’ rubber, which is temperature resistant up to 115C.

Mixed flue
If you want to benefit from the heat radiation of a single-wall flue, but have the peace of mind of a twin-wall through your roof, this is the option for you. Single wall attached directly onto the stove; an adaptor joins this to twinwall flue which exits the roof.
For mixed flue installation use Twinwall flashing kits and hats.
Heat deflector plates
A deflector plate is a 2mm-thick sheet of hammered-effect aluminium with rounded corners made to protect areas around the stove from direct heat. They can be used to protect walls and furniture around the stove and near the flue. These come in two sizes:
- Large (mm); 1000 x 660.
- Small (mm); 660 x 500
Fire cement and rope
You need fire cement or self-adhesive rope-tape to seal between the flue and the stove.
A few other tips
As with stoves, because we’re not HETAS certified we cannot give specific advice on installation.
- Minimum flue length to ensure draw on Windy Smithy stove is 1.5m in total. More will always enable a better draw.
- Twinwall flue going through a flammable roofing material must always have at least 50 mm of clearance all around; Twinwall is cooler than single wall but it still gets very hot!
- If you’r using a mixed flue system, the adaptor to twinwall should be positioned at least 200mm below the roof.
