More InformationRocket stove descriptionChunky, rugged, stable and effective. Engineered to within a fraction of a milimetre, these stoves sit at the pinacle of 30 years of 'rocket elbow' development. Ideal for the back yard, camping, caravaning, or anytime you want almost instant, clean, convenient heat from wood. It also leaves almost no trace; unless cooking for very long periods, the ground beneath it only warms slightly so you won't scorch the grass. Tactical Intelligence have uploaded a YouTube review of the Wood-Charcoal Combination StoveTec. The wood versionThe wood-only model has an attractive simplicity to its design, and is specifically designed for burning wood. It is a few cm shorter, and a bit lighter, than the wood & charcoal version. Instead of a grate, a 'stick support' feeds the wood into the combustion chamber at the optimum height for clean combustion. The large fuel-opening will admit slightly larger pieces of wood. Heat output can still be controlled by putting more sticks in, or pulling the sticks back, so you can still easily get a small simmering fire. Further enhance the efficiency by using the adjustable wind-shield (included) which fits snugly round pots. The 4 L Dutch Oven is a particularly good fit. The scienceA rocket elbow is so-called because of its shape; two cylinders forming a right angle. One end is for inserting fuel and drawing in (and pre-heating) air; the other is for combusting the gases and smoke from the wood and emitting the heat (see diagram under tha main photo). This stove is incredibly efficient, and independent tests around the world have concluded that for cooking a family meal it will use as little as 20% of the wood required by a carefully tended open fire. The thickly-insulated combustion chamber places the pot at the optimum height above the fire to ensure that most smoke has been burned and is ready to give its heat to your pot. An adjustable wind-guard further increases efficiency and means you can use this in windy conditions. You can expect this stove to last: the designers have tested individual stoves for 2700 hours, and they are still going strong. What do Wild Stoves think?Cooking on this stove feels like cooking on a hob; no wobbly or precarious pot. This stove doesn't flinch at our cast-iron cookware. It's also comfortable to use, with a slightly elevated cooking position about a foot off the ground. The stove gets up to heat very quickly - a little lighting paper, flick of the striker and some twigs and you're seconds away from a remarkably smoke-free and hot flame. We have a toddler, and although all open fires (or cookers for that matter) present potential danger to small people, she is often around when we cook on this. There's no risk of her pushing it over; the fire is enclosed, and the outside of the stove doesn't become hot enough to burn little fingers (or ours) due to the thick insulation. So a relatively family friendly option, particularly if like us you don't like your little ones breathing in smoke. The simplicity of this wood-only version is particularly attractive, and there are no small doors to forget or mislay. Its performance as a wood burner is as good - if not better - than the wood-charcoal, partly becuase the air intake is larger. Specifications
